CELTIC have been hit with another whopping Uefa fine after their fans displayed an anti-monarchy banner ahead of last month’s clash with RB Leipzig.

A section of the Hoops support raised a banner which read: “Against Hunger and the Crown” during their clash with RB Leipzig at Parkhead.

The banner was ruled to be provocative

And that will cost them £15,300 (€17,500) after Uefa ruled it was a “provocative message of an offensive nature”.

The Hoops lost the match 2-0 en route to finishing bottom of Group F.

It’s merely the latest action taken by Uefa against Hoops fans this season, after the Parkhead side were also punished for a similar offence away to Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland.

On that occasion, the travelling support unveiled banners with an anti-monarchy message after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II which cost the club £13,139 (€15,000).

One read: “F*** the Queen” while another said “Sorry for your loss, Michael Fagan”, in reference to a Buckingham Palace intruder during the 1980s.

Celtic fans have now cost the club a sum in addition of 50,000 Euros (£43,000) – with another £17,000 coming for their use of pyrotechnics around the 3-1 defeat in Germany earlier in the campaign.

A further fine of £3,500 (4,000 Euros) came for letting off fireworks at home during their campaign opener at home to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou says he has little sympathy for VAR ‘teething problems’ like the one which cropped up for his team against Motherwell in midweek – because the game’s administrators shouldn’t have introduced it if they weren’t ready.

The Hoops boss has been speaking for the first time about the controversy which saw a camera in the Motherwell half fail to capture an offside decision against Jota.

While he has no issue with the decision itself, he reckons it doesn’t help anyone to have it as the star of the show.

He said: “I don’t know why there would be teething problems for something that’s been around for four or five years.

“If we’re not ready, don’t start with it.”
