KILMARNOCK and St Mirren have learned who lies in wait – IF they can come through their next Uefa Conference League ties.

Both the Buddies and Ayrshire side are heading for Norway in the third qualifying round which kicks off this week.

But before jetting off due north, both have the luxury of a home tie as Tromso come to Killie and Saints host FK Brann.

And each know what is at stake if they can achieve success in Scandinavia next Thursday.

Uefa have drawn the play-off stage for the Conference League – dnagling the carrot of qualification ahead of each side.

The play-off is the final stage before the group section itself, with eight guaranteed games for all entrants – a lot like the re-formatted Champions League.

To get there, Kilmarnock will have to first defeat Tromso and then face either Banick Ostrava in Czech Republic or FC Copenhagen.

Likewise the Saints have Romanians CS Corvinul or FC Astana waiting if they can take care of Brann.

Killie were unseeded and could have faced equally tricky ties with Omonia Nicosia, Ferencvaros or even Rangers old boys John Lundstram and Borna Barisic at Trabzonspor in their draw group.

Likewise the Buddies could have met Champions League shock troops FC Sheriff, Brondby, Legia Warsaw or even Serie A giants Fiorentina.

The duo round off a busy day of draws and Scottish football focus on the Nyon.

Earlier today, Rangers discovered their Champions League play-off opponents – if they can defeat Dynamo Kyiv.

They could face a reunion with Sam Lammers if they win and FC Twente do likewise in their clash with Red Bull Salzburg.

Hearts could face a Europa League trip into the unknown, drawing either Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic, or Ukraine‘s Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih – who were formed in 2020.

Killie had been in the Europa League running but dropped into the Conference competition after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Cercle Brugge.

Play-off games are due to be played on August 22 and 29.
