CELTIC face another whopping fine after Uefa opened proceedings into their fans’ behaviour during the recent Champions League clash against Lazio.

The Hoops went down 2-1 on the night to their Italian rivals– and they’re set to be hit in the pocket too after their ultras group the Green Brigade carried on their feud with the Italian club.

They unfurled a giant ‘anti-fascist’ banner prior to the match, although it used similar imagery, wording and symbols to one which copped the club a £13,000 fine following a previous meeting between the clubs back in 2019.

Along with the words ‘Anti-Fascist Glasgow Celtic’, the banner displayed an image of former Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini — upside down — with the words ‘Follow Your Leader’.

A message also read: ‘Lazio Vaffanculo’ – which, translated into Italian, reads: “F*** Lazio“.

The European Governing body take a dim view of what they call ‘illicit banners’ .

And a Uefa spokesperson has told the Daily Mail that UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will take a look into this case – with proceedings also including the throwing of fireworks.

It comes at a time of increasing tension between the club’s board and the Hoops ultras – with appeals to fans over their behaviour falling on deaf ears.

And further UEFA action seemingly inevitable after the Green Brigade called on fans to display Palestine flags during the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid on October 25.

That’s after a statement from the Hoops board condemning the display during the weekend win over Kilmarnock

Reading“Free Palestine – Victory to the Resistance”, it sparked fury just after a wave of atrocities committed by Hamas against Israeli citizens which sparked the most serious escalation in tensions in the Middle East for years.

Stressing that Celtic was ‘a football club’ and ‘not a political organisation’, the club said ‘it is entirely inappropriate for any group of individuals to use CelticPark as a vehicle for such messages’.

It’s also just weeks after the club’s fans landed the club a whopping £23,000 fine for letting off flares and fireworks as their side fell to a 2-0 defeat to Dutch champions Feyenoord.
