THE CONTROVERSIAL ban on away fans for next month’s Napoli vs Rangers tie has been taken to a leading European supporters organisation.

It was announced last week those travelling from Italy for the clash at Ibrox tomorrow would be shut out due to concerns over policing limitations.

In return – UEFA stepped in to rule Rangers fans out of the return leg next month in the name of sporting fairness.

Plenty of fans for both sides though had already paid money into travel and accommodation and are now left out of pocket by the decision.

An Italian politician blasted the call ‘absurd’ and demanded Europe’s football governing body reinstate those who have been impacted.

Rangers supporters group Broomloan Collective are determined to see the move overturned.

The organisation hit out at UEFA for their ‘disdain’ towards match going fans – and in an official statement explained how they hope to use the help of Football Supporters Europe (FSE) to emulate a similar situation from last season.

They said: “Broomloan Collective have now contacted Football Supporters Europe (FSE) regarding this.

“FSE were pivotal in the away fans ban for Lyon being overturned last season.

“We hope they can again assist with finding a way forward which can ensure Rangers fans travelling can attend and watch the game.”

Last season The Light Blues were left ‘bemused’ and ‘extremely frustrated’ by the call to ban their supporters from a Europa League clash with Lyon.

A ‘festival of light’ planned in the French city had given them their own limitations on police resources meaning a move was made again to keep away fans from the stadium.

In a dramatic turn of events that decision was u-turned at the last minute meaning Gers fans were permitted to travel for the 1-1 draw.

Broomloan Collective insist FSE were pivotal in that ordeal and hope they can have a similar impact for the issue this season.

Rangers’ first tie with the Serie A giants now takes place tomorrow night instead of this evening as was initially planned.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are hoping to bounce back from their successive 4-0 defeats against Ajax and bitter rivals Celtic.
